Do players thrive after Man Utd or were club right to move them on

Scott McTominay - Serie A winner with Napoli. Jadon Sancho - Conference League winner with Chelsea. Dean Henderson - FA Cup winner with Crystal Palace.

There was a time when leaving Manchester United was viewed as the start of a slow decline in a player's career.

Is that still the case?

Wednesday's Conference League final saw two players, currently contracted to United, on opposite sides in the shape of Sancho, who has spent the season on loan at Chelsea, and Brazil winger Antony, who joined Real Betis on a temporary basis in January.

While United's bosses carry out an inquest into a disastrous 2024-25 campaign, Sancho ends the season with a European winners' medal after Chelsea's 4-1 victory in Wroclaw, Poland.

In addition, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Matteo Darmian - who have both spent time at United in recent years - could feature for Inter Milan when they face Paris St-Germain in Saturday's Champions Final in Munich.

So, does leaving Manchester United help revive your career given Sancho, Antony, and McTominay have all done well away from Old Trafford?

FC Wangu Mazodze Notice of Withdrawal From the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League

FC Wangu Mazodze Notice of Withdrawal From the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League

Following the incessant victimization from the ERSL through biased improperly constituted tribunals of facts and persecution through prosecution, the Family Trust has engaged the Executive Chairman of FC Wangu Mazodze to with regard to the same.

It is common cause the the Pacific Storm ERSL doesn’t have an elected leadership and its statutes are ultra vires the FIFA and ZIFA statutes. The current leadership are de facto not de jure hence the doctrine of necessity applies as established in the Madzimbamuto v Lardner-Burke and another [1969] 1 AC 645. However this does not give the same people a free reign to exercise unfettered powers manifesting as Wednesbury unreasonableness.

Football by and large is entertainment and our decision to participate was merely for the sake of the community which we felt we belong to and have to provide entertainment as part of the citizenry despite the serious corporate governance issues we have witnessed inter alia;

1. The 2024 Season when one regional executive member followed our team to all the last matches and threatened match officials to work against us.

2. The 2025 Season when frivolous charges were raised against us so as to get Triangle FC promoted. A legal malfeasance where the chairman of it wrote a 21 page folktale guised as a judgement without citing any legal precedent or authority. Shockingly the legal mercenary even failed to appreciate the difference between promulgation and adoption of statutes. For the record, the decision led to the relegation of the club after we refused to pay the fine and we only participated in 2025 through invitation because due to the poor reputation, the region is failing to attract sponsors.

It is with a heavy heart that some unelected people who have never contributed anything to football are destroying and frustrating those who are contributing to the development of football.

The attempt to soil our brand because an individual has confronted an alleged baby father is a domestic issue not connected to football.

In 2024, we were made to endure this same situation and this blackmail attempt which has started several years ago in a bid to make us pay money for promotion to the PSL.

Our position has always been clear that we will never bribe anyone to gain promotion to the PSL.

We are fully aware of the influence and the bad blood between FC Wangu Mazodze and The ERSL Administrator Ms Fungai Munyoro-Chingaira who participated in the last quasi - judicial endeavor to assist the promotion of Triangle FC who are currently facing relegation in the PSL.

The initiation of unfounded and frivolous charges against the club mirrors the June 28th 1914 Sarajevo moment when Archduke Franz Ferdinand Carl Ludwig Joseph Maria of Austria was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip.

The ridiculous step by the Pacific Storm ERSL to charge us on allegations of supporters insulting opponents during the match is childish and reckless because Mawadze J has already clarified on the issue of exceptions in State v Sikhala and abnormal insensitivity is not an excuse.

In the event that sanity doesn’t prevail, the allocated budget for the 2025 football season will be channeled to promote social football in the communities.

We have engaged the Executive Committee Chairman and if the frivolous charges aren’t withdrawn by the close of business on June 02nd of 2025, we will automatically leave the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League without further notice.

The  Zhalala Zhululu brand will never die and will reincarnate in other various forms for its part of the community and its entertainment ecosystem.

By order of the board.

India's colonial past revealed through 200 masterful paintings

Founded in 1600 as a trading enterprise, the English East India Company gradually transformed into a colonial power.

By the late 18th Century, as it tightened its grip on India, Company officials began commissioning Indian artists - many formerly employed by the Mughals - to create striking visual records of the land they were now ruling.

A Treasury of Life: Indian Company Paintings, c. 1790 to 1835, an ongoing show in the Indian capital put together by DAG, an art gallery in Delhi, features over 200 works that once lay on the margins of mainstream art history. It is India's largest exhibition of Company paintings, highlighting their rich diversity and the skill of Indian artists.

Painted by largely unnamed artists, these paintings covered a wide range of subjects, but mainly fall into three categories: natural history, like botanical studies; architecture, including monuments and scenic views of towns and landscapes; and Indian manners and customs.

"The focus on these three subject areas reflects European engagements with their Indian environment in an attempt to come to terms with all that was unfamiliar to Western eyes," says Giles Tillotson of DAG, who curated the show.

"Europeans living in India were delighted to encounter flora and fauna that were new to them, and ancient buildings in exotic styles. They met – or at least observed – multitudes of people whose dress and habits were strange but – as they began to discern – were linked to stream of religious belief and social practice."

SCOTTLAND . .[2] SIMBA BHORA . . [0]

SCOTTLAND ramped up pressure on log leaders MWOS with a statement victory over defending Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions Simba Bhora at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

Two quick-fire goals from substitute Michael Ta
pera, the second one a stunning strike from outside the box, were all the Tonderai Ndiraya-coached side needed to stretch their winning streak to three consecutive matches.

Tapera opened the scoring in the 80th minute, finishing off a rebound after Mthokozisi Msebe's effort had cannoned off the upright.

While the first goal was an instinctive finish from the former Manica Diamonds winger, his second was a beauty.

After winning possession inside the centre circle, the speedy winger outran his marker, Trevor Mavhunga, towards goal.

With most people expecting him to pass the ball to the lurking Khama Billiat, Tapera fired an unstoppable rocket into the top corner, a goal that would have made the watching former England and Liverpool player Emile Heskey proud.

Heskey was part of the crowd at Rufaro Stadium as he is in the country as part of a delegation from global investment firm, Zotus Group.

Two Arrested For Gang Raping Popular Harare Socialite

Two Arrested For Gang Raping Popular Harare Socialite

Two Harare men Blessing Dube and Martin Charlie were on Monday arraigned before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa accused of gang raping a socialite Ashley Masendeke better known as Mai Jeremaya in entertainment circles.

Dube 27 from Chitungwiza and Charlie from Manresa were sent to Remand Prison awaiting their bail ruling on Tuesday.

According to the State, on April 9 2025, Dube contacted Masendeke, inviting her for a business meeting, but they failed to meet on the day in question.

On April 30 2025, Masendeke allegedly received a WhatsApp message from Charlie, and they met at Megawatt along Samora Machel, and he drove to number 11 Frank Johnson Eastlea for business.

“The second accused (Charlie) went into the building pretending to go and see his boss, and he came back in a few minutes. The first accused (Dube) came with a certain lady called Sbahle and they entered the car.

“The second accused drove to town, where Sbahle was dropped off, and then drove to Eastlea, where he parked at number 15 Frank Johnson Avenue, Eastlea, Harare.

“The first accused went into the building, and the second accused told the complainant to go inside the room where the meeting was supposed to be held.

“The complainant was shocked to see a bed, and when she turned back, she saw the second accused locking the door, and the first accused entered the room using the other door, locked it and started to laugh.

“The complainant cried for help but was silenced by the first accused who told her not to anger the second accused and ordered her to remove her clothes,” reads court papers.

The court heard that Charlie pushed her onto the bed and undressed her and Dube forced her to suck his manhood.

The two allegedly took turns to rape her whilst forcing themselves on her mouth.

“After the act the complainant went to the bathroom where the second accused was and he again had sexual intercourse with her once without her consent.

“The first accused also had sexual intercourse with her for the second time without her consent,” the State alleges further.

The court heard that the accused persons booked an in-drive for the complainant and she went home that is when she filed a police report.

Highlanders FC have unleashed an impressive attacking pair capable of unlocking any defence in the Premier Soccer League (PSL)

Bulawayo soccer giants Highlanders FC have unleashed an impressive attacking pair capable of unlocking any defence in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), sparking hope among fans and sending a clear message to rivals.

Reason “Reebo” Sibanda and Brighton “Maninja” Ncube have formed a potent partnership upfront for Bosso, combining flair, work ethic, and clinical finishing. The duo’s chemistry on the pitch has been instrumental in Highlanders’ strong start to the 2025 season, with the pair contributing seven goals and five assists between them in just nine matches.

Ncube, who has been a constant threat in the final third, leads the pair with four goals and three assists. His ability to find space and create opportunities has not only boosted Highlanders’ attacking prowess but also opened up chances for his strike partner. Sibanda, equally effective, has chipped in with three goals and two assists, proving himself a valuable asset in front of goal.

Speaking over the weekend, Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu praised the partnership, highlighting their complementary playing styles and tireless work rate. “The impressive work rate of the two strikers demonstrates that they can play as twin strikers,” Kaindu said, emphasizing their tactical flexibility and understanding on the field.

With Sibanda and Ncube leading the line, Highlanders now look like genuine title contenders. Their performances have not only energized the squad but also rekindled belief among the club’s passionate supporters. If the duo maintains this form, Bosso could be on course for a memorable campaign.

Could this be the season the black and white giants reclaim PSL glory? All eyes will be on the striking pair as the season progresses.

CHELSEA 3-1 LIVERPOOL

Chelsea boosted their top-four hopes as they dispatched off the new Premier League champions Liverpool with a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues applauded Arne Slot’s side onto the pitch ahead of kick-off, but the home fans had reason to celebrate after just three minutes when Enzo Fernandez finished off a well-executed move with a composed finish.

Enzo Maresca’s side still have plenty to play for this season as they look to secure a top-five finish and a return to the Champions League next season.

Man City XI vs Wolves: Haaland back - Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Premier League

Erling Haaland will hope for minutes off the bench against Wolves

Return: Erling Haaland is back in the Man City squad after injury

Manchester City have Erling Haaland back in the squad against Wolves tonight.

The Norwegian has not featured since suffering an ankle injury in the FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth in March, missing City's last four matches across all competitions which has seen them reach the FA Cup final and strengthen their grip on Champions League qualification.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Pep Guardiola said he "doesn't think" Haaland will be fit for the visit of in-form Wolves, however the striker does make the bench

Long-term absentee Rodri is also back in training but is not yet ready to return.

“We are really pleased Erling is back and Rodri is back in the training sessions,” the City boss said. “The moment the physio and doctor say that Rodri can start to play minutes and after that he will start to play minutes.

"But the doctors have to tell me... When the doctor says Rodri is stable and he can play, after that he is going to come back.”

Omar Marmoush continues to lead the line for City and Kevin De Bruyne is recalled after starting the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest last weekend on the bench.

James McAtee is on the bench, having served a suspension at Wembley, along with the likes of Phil Foden and Jack Grealish.

Liverpool thrash Spurs to seal PL title

Needing just a point from today’s clash against Tottenham to win the domestic championship for the 20th time in their history, Liverpool thumped Ange Postecoglou’s team 5-1 at Anfield.

Spurs briefly threatened to poop Liverpool’s title party when the North Londoners took a surprise early lead. With 12 minutes on the clock, Dominic Solanke - a former Liverpool player - headed home from a corner.

However, the Merseysiders turned the scoreboard on its head inside a quarter of an hour, thanks to goals by Luis Díaz and Alexis Mac Allister.

Cody Gakpo then added a third before the break, before Mohamed Salah’s 28th goal of the Premier League season made it four just after the hour mark. Liverpool’s fifth arrived when Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie turned into his own net with 20 minutes remaining.

Mablanyo admits pressure, opens up on financial woes' impact on Dynams' perfomance ahead of clash with Kwekwe United

Mablanyo admits pressure, opens up on financial woes' impact on Dynams' perfomance ahead of clash with Kwekwe United

Dynamos Head Coach - Lloyd "Mablanyo" Chigowe:

"As Dynamos FC, we attract a lot of opposition, which motivates teams to perform well against us. Players see it as an opportunity to market themselves by playing exceptionally well against us. I believe we have a crucial match on our hands, and we must win it.

As a coach, I'm trying to take responsibility and shield the players from pressure. Three losses in a row aren't ideal, and it puts pressure on the technical team. I'm doing my best to manage that pressure.

There's divided opinion among supporters. Some understand our predicament, while others expect results. As coaches, we know that results are crucial, and our tenure can be under threat if we don't deliver.

Regarding tactics, I've had success in the past with positional flexibility. For example, I've played Marshall Munetsi, a defender, as an attacking midfielder. As a coach, it's about finding solutions and improving.

We have a talented striker, Obert Marcus Dani Tafira, but we failed to register him, which limited our planning. The margins of victory are tight, and it shows we have a crisis. We're working with what we have, and it's up to us to raise our game.

MWOS FC has incentives that motivate their players, and it's clear they have more resources than us. We rely on our support base, which is critical for Dynamos' survival and maintaining trust between players and supporters."

Scotland youth international Ethan Sutherland switches international allegiance to Zimbabwe

By Zim Sport Live

Rising Wolverhampton Wanderers starlet Ethan Sutherland has officially committed his international future to the Zimbabwe national team, a move confirmed following meetings with the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) in London.

The 19-year-old winger, who previously represented Scotland at U19 level, has agreed to switch allegiance to Zimbabwe as the country intensifies preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

ZIFA has been actively pursuing young UK-born players of Zimbabwean heritage to strengthen the Warriors’ squad. Head coach Michael Nees is leading the charge, focusing on players with dual eligibility who can make a long-term impact.

Sutherland becomes the latest talent identified in this initiative. Born in Scotland to a Zimbabwean mother and a Scottish father, the promising winger qualifies to represent either nation at the senior level.

The Zimbabwe FA has already initiated the FIFA process to formalize Sutherland’s nationality switch. Officials met with the player and his family in London to finalize the decision, which is now awaiting international clearance.

Sutherland began his football journey at St. Mirren in Scotland before joining Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Although yet to feature for Wolves’ first team, he is currently gaining valuable experience on loan at National League club Solihull Moors.

He made his debut for Scotland’s U19s in October 2024 during a 2–1 win against Hungary, accumulating three caps but never breaking into the senior side. Known for his pace and versatility, he can operate both as a winger and a right back.

If FIFA approves the switch, Sutherland will join a growing group of UK-born players who have chosen to represent Zimbabwe, including Jordan Zemura, Tawanda Chirewa, Andy Rinomhota, and Marley Tavaziva.

Sutherland’s addition is a major boost for Zimbabwe as they build a competitive squad for AFCON 2025. His technical ability, European training, and youthful energy align with ZIFA’s broader vision to elevate the country’s performance on the continental stage.

As Zimbabwe looks to return to the African football elite, the decision by Sutherland marks a symbolic and strategic win for the national team.

Warriors to play World Cup qualifiers at home in September – Magwizi

*Warriors to play World Cup qualifiers at home in September – Magwizi*

TRIANGLE- Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) President Ngobile Magwizi recently promised that the Zimbabwe National Soccer team will play its world cup qualifiers campaign against Benin in September at the National Sports Stadium.

Magwizi revealed this while touring Gibbo stadium that was refurbished by Tongaat Hullets Zimbabwe (THZ) recently when he said ZIFA was working hand in glove with the government to complete works at the National Stadium.

“As you might be aware, the national team has not been playing in the country because our stadia are not ready for us to conduct international matches.

"This is because they have not met the required set CAF standards but I can promise you that come September, we will host the world cup qualifiers in our own National Sports Stadium because we are working towards achieving that,” said Magwizi.

He hailed THZ for refurbishing Gibbo Stadium to better standards when he toured the homologated Stadium before Triangle United Football Club (TUFC) drew with Bulawayo giants, Highlanders.

TUFC received a green light from ZIFA recently to host local matches at Gibbo Stadium following its refurbishment.

Magwizi highlighted that though it wasn’t their mandate to upgrade football infrastructure, they were working closely with government and partners to upgrade football infrastructure across the country in order to meet CAF standards.

“As ZIFA, our role is to manage football and infrastructure is a key component of having football played though it is not our responsibility to construct the infrastructure , we lobby and motivate partners and authorities to work with us to build infrastructure.

“Very impressive work has been done by Triangle and this is what we speak to when we talk about partnerships with the corporate sector, where they come in and commit resources to build infrastructure that benefits the community. We had communicated with them to build stadiums to meet the standards recommended by CAF and FIFA and in two months they had already built new changing rooms, a new tunnel and added new ablution facilities,” said Magwizi.

Bikita Minerals have since relocated from Sakubva Stadium in Mutare which they had been using as their home ground to Gibbo Stadium.

Liverpool title push hits bump

April 8, 2025

Liverpool title push hits bump

LIVERPOOL’S unbeaten run has come to an end, but barring a remarkable collapse, they will end the season as English Premier League football champions.

Defeat at Fulham on Sunday was the Reds’ first in 26 league games and just their second of the campaign.

But with seven games remaining, Arne Slot’s side require a maximum of 11 points more to secure the title.

“If you look at the goals we conceded, I think all three, we could have prevented them,” Slot told BBC Match of the Day.

“That is not what we usually see and that is probably why we are where we are, because if you make these mistakes more often in this league, you would not have the amount of points we have.

“The second half is much more like the team we are. Conceding three goals in the manner we did is not of the standards of Liverpool. That’s clear.”

Despite the setback at Craven Cottage, a record-equalling 20th top-flight crown is surely a formality now?

They could even win the title as early as April 20 – if results elsewhere go their way – with no team in English Premier League history throwing away a lead of this size at this stage of the season.

The Reds’ dominance has been clear for all to see this campaign, and they lead second-placed Arsenal by 11 points.

Slot is certainly expecting his side to bounce back and get the job done.

“We played a good game on Wednesday (against Everton) and we will show up against West Ham (on Sunday) as well,” he told Sky Sports.

We’ve all heard the accusations and whispers this season from rival fans, haven’t we?

“This Liverpool team isn’t actually that great.”

“The Premier League is a poor league this season.” “Liverpool’s class of 2024-25 wouldn’t have won the title in another season.”

Sunday’s loss will only add to those shouts. How fair is this, though?

Firstly, it has to be said Liverpool’s usual rivals are not having their best seasons.

Defending champions Manchester City are on track for their worst campaign under Pep Guardiola, Manchester United are set for their worst season in Premier League history, Arsenal are nine points adrift of their points tally at this stage of last season, while Tottenham and Chelsea have suffered their own struggles as well.

“The other teams just haven’t stepped up this season and Liverpool have been consistent all the way through,” former Manchester United captain Gary Neville told Sky Sports prior to the Fulham match.

“The rest of them have fallen well below their standards – Arsenal, obviously Manchester City, United, Tottenham.”

It’s been a good season for Liverpool to hit full stride then. And Slot’s men have certainly done that.

Even if Arsenal were on the 71 points they had reached at this stage last season, when they were top of the table, Liverpool would still be two points ahead of them.

“I don’t even think Liverpool have been outstanding this season, they’ve been efficient,” ex-Manchester City defender Micah Richards told Sky Sports.

“They’ve been slower in build-up and more ruthless in front of goal.”

Arsenal’s much-lauded Invincibles finished their title-winning campaign on 90 points back in 2004. Slot’s men need 18 points from seven games to beat that.

In 32 Premier League seasons, only 14 sides have reached that mark and one of them – Manchester United in 1993-94 – did so in a 42-game season.– BBC Sport/Sports Reporter.

Tears, losses: CAPS Utd crisis deepens

Mugove Chigada

Deputy Editor-Zimpapers Sports Hub

The viral video of a CAPS United fan sobbing after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Ngezi Platinum doesn’t come close to telling the full story.

Because that same fan has cried before – even in victory. In April 2023, after a 1-0 win over ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium, he was again trending, weeping with joy.

This time, the tears are soaked in dread.

“It’s normal to cry because we have CAPS United at heart – in both cases,” says die-hard supporter Tafadzwa ‘Daddy Willoe’ Phiri.

“But I don’t really know the background of that trending fan much to explain everything.”

Yet the numbers explain it all. And they are grim.

CAPS United have picked up just four points in their first five matches of the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season. That return, paired with a negative goal difference of two, marks their second worst start since their 2016 championship campaign.

Only in 2021/22 did they begin worse – also with four points, but a goal difference of minus four.

That season, ravaged by Covid-19’s lingering impact, ended in mediocrity: 11th place, 40 points, and little to cheer.

Now, fans are starting to fear a repeat.

In five games, CAPS United have already lost three times – the same number of defeats they suffered across the entire 2016 season. Back then, they collected 13 points from their first five, remained unbeaten, and even beat Dynamos 1-0 during that stretch.

A lot has changed since then – financially, structurally, and competitively. But head coach Lloyd Chitembwe isn’t making excuses.

“I have been here long enough to understand what this football club is all about,” Chitembwe says. “Results are what matter at the end of the day.”

And he’s not shifting blame either.

“It is the sole responsibility of the coach to make the team win matches. It is my responsibility, and that responsibility does not lie with anyone else.”

Since 2008, no team has gone on to win the league after a start as poor – or worse – than CAPS United’s current one, except Monomotapa.

Under Norman Mapeza, they collected just three points in their opening five matches but rebounded spectacularly.

That Monoz side had conceded nine goals and scored just four, yet went on a tear, losing only two more games in the remaining 25. Their 76 percent success rate from that point powered them to the title.

That’s the kind of miracle Chitembwe’s men now need to replicate. A tall order – but not mathematically impossible.

Sunday’s dagger from Ngezi Platinum’s Ashwin Karengesha may have decided the match, but not the entire season.

Still, the pressure is mounting – not just on the pitch, but in the boardroom.

The CAPS United leadership meets on Tuesday to discuss the club’s nosedive. But insiders know the real power rests with club president Farai Jere, the man who brought Chitembwe back and has stood by him through thick and thin.

Now, the question is: how much longer will that loyalty last?
